In a completely new, even thinner, all-metal designiPod is a brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple and emerged in October 2001.

The line-up currently consists of the original-style flagship iPod classic, the iPhone-like iPod touch, the third generation iPod nano with video capability, and the display-less second generation iPod shuffle. Former products include the mid-level iPod mini (replaced by the iPod nano) and the high-end spin-off iPod photo (re-integrated into the main iPod classic line).

The iPod classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size. Like many digital music players, iPods can also serve as external data storage devices.

The name iPod was proposed by Vinnie Chieco, a freelance copywriter, who (with others) was called by Apple to figure out how to introduce the new player to the public. After Chieco saw a prototype, he thought of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and the phrase "Open the pod bay door, Hal!", which refers to the white EVA Pods of the Discovery One spaceship.

Apple had previously registered the name "iPod" for Internet kiosks, but never put it to use.

SoftwareiPod can play MP3, AAC/M4A, Protected AAC, AIFF, WAV, Audible audiobook, and Apple Lossless audio file formats. The iPod photo introduced the ability to display JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and PNG image file formats.

Fifth generation iPods can additionally play MPEG and QuickTime video formats. Originally, iPod software only worked with Macs; however, starting with the second generation model, iPod software worked with Windows and Macs.

The iPod is associated with one host computer. Each time an iPod connects to its host computer, iTunes can synchronize entire music libraries or music playlists either automatically or manually. Song ratings can be set on the iPod and synchronized later to the iTunes library.User interfaceiPods with color displays use anti-aliased graphics and text, with sliding animations.

These iPods have five buttons and the later generations have the buttons integrated into the click wheel — . The buttons are:Menu: to traverse backwards through the menus, and toggle the backlight on older iPods Center: to select a menu item Play / Pause: this doubles as an off switch when held Skip Forward / Fast Forward Skip Backwards / Fast Reverse Other operations such as scrolling through menu items and controlling the volume are performed by using the click wheel in a rotational manner, while an additional Hold switch helps prevent accidental button presses. iPod shuffle does not have a click wheel and instead has five buttons positioned differently from the larger models: It has a Play / Pause button in the center, surrounded by four buttons: Volume Up / Down and Skip Forward / Backwards. The later models automatically pause playback when the headphones are unplugged from the headphone jack, but playback does not resume upon re-insertion. An iPod that has crashed or frozen can be reset by switching Hold on then off, then pressing Menu and Center.

TO DOWNLOAD SONGS AND VIDEOS
All you have to do is to connect your Ipod to your PC, open Itunes software, drag
songs into Itunes, and your songs and files will be synced into your Ipod
automatically. You have the play/pause, forward, rewind, menu buttons on your
Ipod.

HOW TO REPLACE IPOD BATTERY
Search for your relevant battery online (such as ipodbattery.com). Batteries sell for
as low as 29$USD. Once you have the battery, turn off your iPod and put the hold button to the on position. You should have a flathead screwdriver, you get this once you buy the
battery. In any case, you must pry open the iPod, by putting the tool between the
plastic and the metal, and remove battery form the hard drive and put the new
battery on the glue that stayed on the hard drive. Make sure the battery is flush
and place wired effectively so you can actually close the iPod. Snap the case back
together, you'll hear it when it's done!- Turn on and charge iPod , it works.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IPOD GAMES FROM HEREhttp://www.coolwebstuffonline.com/Ipodgam

AUDIO AND VIDEO CONVERTER FOR IPOD
All in all the winner is iPod Video Converter 2007, it has the best interface, it is the
most easy to use and simply delivered good quality video output for any video we
tested.
